smart wood is the world’s leading manufacturer of food grade wooden sticks – such as ice-cream, coffee stirrers, wooden skewers – producing 20 billion sticks annually in 9 factories. With the EU Single Use Plastics Directive banning plastic stirrers in 2021, smart wood sees an opportunity to fulfill increased demand of the vending industry for European-produced wooden stirrers, as there will be a significant need for vending operators to replace plastic stirrers with a more sustainable alternative.
Marco Maggiorotto explains why the company has become EVA members, saying, “smart wood joined EVA to help raise the sustainable approach of the automatic vending category by bringing: know-how, facts and solutions in certified sustainable wooden stirrers.
We expect to challenge and be challenged in our mission to dispel myths and misconceptions about wood transformation and its long term benefits to the community.“
Erwin Wetzel, the EVA Director General warmly welcomes the company to the Association, commenting, “By joining the EVA, smart wood now has access to the latest and detailed key industry statistics and information, allowing the company to understand the largest and most attractive European markets, understand more the business models in vending, and learn about and meet the key operators. I am sure we will have a mutual beneficial partnership for the coming years.”
smart wood (Romania) is based in Timisoara and joins the EVA as a Supportive Member.
