A quick look at some topics relevant for the vending industry.
EVA monitoring proposed Ecodesign for Sustainbale Products Regulation requirements
We have previously highlighted to members in the EU Newsletter the new proposed requirements of the EU Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products (ESPR), something that is expected to impact all physical products placed on the EU market including of course vending machines.
The EVA responded to the EU consultation on the proposed ESPR – which closed on 22 June and attracted almost 200 stakeholder responses – with detailed information on its potential impact on our industry.
Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2): Review ongoing
The EVA is continuing to lobbying for changes to the current PSD2 as the EU Commission reviews the legislation. The EVA has had an interview with consultants who will provide a report to the Commisison as well as providing responses to various technical consultations.
This topic as well as the proposed lobbying strategy of the EVA is discussed in depth at meetings of the Electronic Payment Committee.
PPWD: EVA contributes to a joint position paper with 27 other organisations.
The EU Commission is currently reviewing the current Packaging & Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD), with the view to propose updated legislation at the end of this year.
A number of aspects of the proposals gave us concern, such as the recyclability threshold for cups. As such the EVA joined forces with 27 other organisations to express in a detailed technical paper our common position.
EVA publishes report on impact of the global situation on vending companies.
Over the last months, the EVA has been very aware of supply chain problems, lack of availability of components and extensive price increases for almost everything, including energy prices.
The main causes are well known, including the legacy of the economic hit of the pandemic as well as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and obviously brings an impact across all business sectors and industry.
Through its survey the EVA nevertheless wanted to quantify the experiences of this impact for vending operators and suppliers and has now been able to publish the most interesting, yet gloomy results. These include:
- 87% of companies are seeing prices increase for components, while three in 4 companies are experiencing delivery delays
- 75% of vending companies say they have increased prices for consumers
- Half of companies are looking for new suppliers
- 59% of respondents expect sales loses to be up to 24%
