Food Safety CD
The EVA has developed a user-friendly, Food Safety Management System for vending operators to implement in their businesses.
Food safety is paramount in any food business. Vending operators should therefore apply the Food Safety Management System to ensure that food products are stored safely and to avoid customer complaints related to food poisoning. This would also ensure compliance with European law.
The European Food Safety Regulation 852/2004 requires all food businesses to carry out a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) study and to base the operating practices of the business on the results of the study.
HACCP
HACCP is a systematic approach to the identification, evaluation, and control of food safety hazards. It is the simple and straightforward way of making sure you have a safe business. The key point about HACCP is that it allows businesses to put in the minimum number of controls but in the right places.
CD Description
The CD generates product specific plans. It associates good operating practices with the necessary documentation (as little as possible / as much as necessary). It includes food safety procedures, documentation and food safety/hygiene training material. All resources are included in the CD (glossary, support, training etc).
In most cases, it will not require companies to do additional things. It is merely to formalise what companies are doing in a way that complies with the official requirements.
The CD has a step by step approach covering the whole business, from purchasing to sales.
What you need to do depends on what you are vending. The product categories currently covered by the CD are as follows:
• Unrefrigerated wrapped products
• Refrigerated wrapped products
• Hot and cold drinks from powdered ingredients
For only 100€ you can build your own HACCP system. It is a lot cheaper than paying a consultant to make an analysis for you!

The EVA CD has been designed by a group of experts who combine scientific knowledge, detailed understanding of EU food safety legislation as well as of the vending industry, and special communication skills in the area of food safety. Mike Saltmarsh, from Inglehurst Foods, and Hugh Hose, from Nestlé and current EC Member, are the brains behind the CD.
