The positive side of plastic cup use in vending: the unsaid issues
The EVA's Cup Committee is pleased to share the positive aspects of plastics cup use in Vending.
Intrinsic qualities
- Plastic cups are hygienic and safe for your health
- Plastic cups are economical and easy to use
- Plastic cups are recyclable: plastic cups can be recycled into flower pots, rulers, benches, cup holders, pens (development works are being carried out with a view to recycle into plastic cups again)
- Plastic cups are a source of energy recovery and their use can help deal effectively with some of today’s growing issues such as: energy independence and climate change
Benefits at the workplace
No need to wash your plastic cups:
- Convenience and no need to use either treated drinking water or chemical detergents in the cleaning process. Also, costs are cut as there is no need to consume extra energy by running a dishwasher to clean and dry the cups
- Prevents a work conflict situation as there will be neither cause for discussion about emptying or loading the dishwasher, nor arguments about who last cleaned the dishcloth used for drying the cups
- There are no dirty cups left lying around the office, for which no one wants to take responsibility
You do not have to store them or own them:
- No need for cupboard space to store the cups
- You do not have to worry that someone at the office will borrow your favourite cup or that you will leave it behind
User-safe
- Plastic cups follow the laws that apply to food contact material
- Plastic cups are made of PS (polystyrene) and not Polycarbonate, and therefore have nothing to do with the debate about BPA use (Bisphenol A)
- Plastic cups do not contain any natural, rubber latex, so they can be used by anyone, even by those persons allergic to latex
Other benefits
- Plastic cups are versatile and can also be used for catering, birthday parties or for outdoor activities
- The cups are also very convenient if travelling. They are available and clean on demand. No need to travel carrying heavy mugs around with you. Disposable cups are easier to use and dispose of, unlike their porcelain counterparts
