EVA joins Pay-Able Platform

04.10 '16
Pay-Able aims for better design of payment terminals for disabled people.

Pay-Able is a cross-sectoral, single-issue European platform with the goal to provide barrier free access to payment terminals for everyone in Europe. It is under the high patronage of Mr Herman Van Rompuy, the previous President of the European Council.

According to Pay-Able there are 80 million disabled and close to 100 million elderly consumers in Europe and any of them regularly experience problems (i.e. reading text, pushing the buttons etc) when trying to pay by card. This problem is even more urgent now that our society is transitioning to a less cash environment.

In response, payment terminals could for example be equipped with an audio output, a screen with more contrast and larger fonts and fixed places for the keys. Innovative ways of interacting with a payment terminal, for example through Bluetooth or Near Field Communication (NFC), could be part of the solution.

EVA has joined the platform in order to encourage more accessibility of payment terminals in the vending industry.
